The Itinerary.

  • Welcome to the exciting beginning of your journey of avian discovery in Mongolia!

    Upon your arrival at the airport or train station, the dedicated Discovery Mongolia team will warmly welcome you and provide transportation to your hotel, conveniently situated in downtown Ulaanbaatar (UB).

    Depending on your arrival time, there's an opportunity to explore the vibrant city and enjoy leisurely walks, allowing you to immerse yourself in the local team and surroundings.

    Your meals will be provided at appropriate times, and you'll enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at your hotel as you embark on your adventure in Mongolia.

  • After an early flight, we land in Khovd, the central hub of Khovd Province. To kick off our exploration, we embark on a brief city tour that includes a visit to the local museum. Here, you'll have the opportunity to explore an array of exhibits, including geology displays, collections of stuffed wildlife (such as the ibex with its distinctive corrugated antlers), ethnic costumes, artifacts, and even a snow leopard pelt tacked up on the wall.

    Following the museum visit, we venture into the surrounding area, where we'll explore old Manchu ruins and gather essential food supplements for the upcoming days of our journey.

    Throughout the day, you'll savor an assortment of meals (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner) and experience the authenticity and warmth of traditional Mongolian gers/yurts as you spend the night, deepening your connection with the culture and landscape of Mongolia.

  • Our journey continues as we drive to Khar Us Lake or Lake Black Water, which is situated just 28 kilometers from Khovd city. This remarkable lake is the second-largest freshwater lake in Mongolia and serves as a vital habitat for a diverse range of bird species. Among the more than 260 species of birds you can encounter here are the Pallas’s Fish Eagle, Great-white Egret, Swan Goose, and an array of fish species, with Ruff and Altain Osman being particularly abundant.

    Over the course of two days, we'll immerse ourselves in bird-watching and wildlife observation in this picturesque location. Our accommodation during this time will be in a tent camp, allowing us to be closer to nature. We'll also have the pleasure of dining in the great outdoors, savoring delicious meals amid the stunning natural surroundings.

  • Our journey leads us to the awe-inspiring Jargalant Khairkhan Mountain, an isolated extension of the Altai mountain range. Situated in the heart of the Khar Us Lake basin, this area boasts a rich and diverse ecosystem that supports a wide range of wildlife.

    As we explore the region, you'll have the opportunity to observe a variety of bird species, including the Saker Falcon, White-throated Bushchat, Cinereous Vulture, Altai Snowcock, and the Mongolian accentor.     During our visit, we'll have the unique opportunity to meet Kazakh families who have been breeding eagles for generations, training them to become skilled hunters. You'll gain insights into this fascinating tradition and the bond between the Kazakh people and their majestic eagles.

    In addition to cultural experiences, you can join Mongolian horseback trips around the hills, immersing yourself in the Kazakh way of life with eagles as a central theme of daily life.

    Here, you can anticipate the opportunity to observe an array of bird species, including the Bar-headed Goose, Great Cormorant, Common Goldeneye, Whooper Swan, Northern Lapwing, and many more.   • Today, our journey takes us to the impressive Khar Yamaat Mountain, also known as "Black Goat Mountain," located in Bukhmurun village. This mountain is often referred to as the homeland of the Ibex mountain sheep.

    In this spectacular region, you'll have the opportunity to observe Ibexes and Argali wild sheep, adding to your wildlife-watching experiences. As we venture further, we'll be entering the Uvs Province region in the northwestern part of Mongolia, marked by its diverse landscapes and wildlife.

Here, you can anticipate encountering several Globally Threatened species, including the Swan Goose (Anser cygnoides), Pallas’s Fish-eagle (Haliaeetus Leucoryphus), and Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni).     While en route to our destination, you may also have the chance to spot the Ruddy Shelduck (Tadorna Ferruginea), a beautiful waterfowl species. Traveling on Mongolian horseback, you'll have the opportunity to connect with the natural surroundings as you make your way to our designated spot.

    A booking confirmation is secured upon a 50% deposit of the total tour cost. The outstanding balance is required to be settled 60 days prior to the tour commencement.
