Welcome to Your Mongolian Adventure!
When you arrive at the airport or train station, the Discovery Mongolia team will warmly welcome you and take you to your well-placed hotel in downtown Ulaanbaatar (UB).
Depending on your arrival time, there may be a chance to explore the city and take leisurely walks. In the evening, we will convene for a welcome meeting with our team and share information about our journey.
You'll also get to savor delicious meals and spend the night at the hotel.

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, our bird-watching journey in eastern Mongolia kicks off. We'll embark on a drive that takes a few hours, with fascinating stops along the way, including a visit to the remarkable statue of Chinggis Khaan. As we continue our overland drive, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring open steppes and vast grasslands, framed by majestic mountains in the distance.
The camp's surrounding area offers excellent opportunities for bird-watching, with a diverse range of species to be spotted. Among the birds you can expect to see are the Steppe eagle, Upland buzzard, Black Kite, Demoiselle Crane, Ruddy Shelduck, White-naped Crane, Common Crane, Black Grouse, Arctic Loon, and a variety of smaller forest birds.

Our journey leads us further east to the picturesque Khurkh Valley, a habitat for a wide range of bird species, including those listed in the Endangered Species as well as the Mongolian Red Book. This valley has become a vital refuge for various birds, with reports of Siberian Cranes making it their summer home over the past few years. White-naped Cranes, Common Cranes, and Demoiselle Cranes also spend their summers here in increasing numbers, while Hooded Cranes are observed primarily during spring and fall.
During your time in this remarkable location, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy invigorating hikes in the fresh, open air, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Khurkh Valley.

Following a satisfying breakfast, we hit the road, venturing into the captivating Khuiten Valley. This valley serves as a prime habitat for various bird species, making it a paradise for bird enthusiasts. Among the birds you can expect to spot are the Upland Buzzard, Steppe eagle, Long-legged Buzzard, Black Kite, and even the impressive Pallas’s Fish Eagle. The Great Bustard is also a common presence in this area, adding to the diversity of bird species you may encounter.

Our day's journey takes us across the Onon River, a waterway that ultimately flows into the Amur River and onward into the Pacific Ocean. This is a region teeming with natural wonders and birdlife.
Around the Onon River, you'll have the opportunity to spot the nesting grounds of the impressive Pallas’s Fish Eagle. Furthermore, the area offers many chances to observe Mandarin Ducks, among other more common duck species, adding to the bird-watching experience.
Along the way, we'll have the privilege of visiting and meeting nomadic families, allowing us to partake in local hospitality and gain insights into how these local Mongolians have maintained their nomadic lifestyle for centuries without succumbing to urbanization. As the sun rises, we embark on a journey to the Gun Galuut Nature Reserve, traversing a landscape dominated by woodlands and rocky hillsides. Along the way, you'll be greeted by the common scenery of nomadic families and their herds of sheep, cows, and horses, providing a glimpse into their traditional way of life.
Gun Galuut is a rich habitat for a variety of bird species. Here, you can expect to observe Whooper Swans and Swan Geese nesting, as well as several wader species. Look out for Stejneger’s White-winged Scoters, Garganey, and White-naped Cranes, among other remarkable birds that are likely to make an appearance.

For those eager to witness the majestic Argali, or wild sheep, in their natural pastures, you have the option to rise early and join our local rangers before breakfast. This is a remarkable opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures in their native habitat.
In the mid-afternoon, we'll reach our observation spot to witness the graceful White-naped Cranes and Demoiselle Cranes, offering a final glimpse of the avian wonders of Mongolia.
Afterward, we'll make our way to Ulaanbaatar. You'll enjoy a delightful array of meals throughout the day (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner), and rest comfortably at your hotel for the night, concluding your bird-watching adventure with cherished memories of the diverse birdlife and wildlife of Mongolia.

Today, we embark on a journey to Hustai National Park, situated just 120 kilometers away from Ulaanbaatar. This incredible park is home to a wide array of wildlife, including more than 300 wild horses, 1,300 red deer, 20,000 marmots, and over 220 species of birds. It also boasts historical sites and a stunning natural landscape.
Upon arrival, you'll receive a short introduction to the national park before we head out for hiking and observation. In this remarkable environment, you can expect to spot a variety of birds, including the Cinereous Vulture, Golden Eagle, Steppe Eagle, Upland Buzzard, Saker Falcon, and various smaller Falconidae, adding to the richness of your bird-watching experience.

Today, we embark on the journey back to Ulaanbaatar city. Upon reaching our hotel, we'll gather for a delightful lunch and then have the opportunity to explore two significant cultural sites. You can choose to visit the National History Museum, offering insights into Mongolia's rich history, or opt to visit Gandan Monastery, one of the most respected spiritual centers among Mongolians.
In the evening, we have the privilege of attending a Mongolian folklore concert, celebrated for its wide variety of captivating dance and singing performances, serving as blessings for your journey and immersion into Mongolian culture.
To mark the end of your incredible adventure, we'll come together for a memorable farewell dinner at one of Mongolia's prestigious restaurants, sharing stories and experiences.
Finally, you'll return to your hotel for a restful overnight stay, concluding your journey with cherished memories of Mongolia's culture and natural beauty.
